When patients have direct communication with a pharmacist, their stress levels go down. Research shows that patient access to pharmacists who provide personalized education and answer their questions about newly prescribed medications are an effective strategy to increasing patient satisfaction.
This clear connection between pharmacist-led communication and patient happiness was shared at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ 54th Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition. It was based on research conducted with patients during a hospital stay.
In short: patient access to easy and clear communication from their pharmacy is crucial. The important role of a specialty pharmacy is to guide patients through the otherwise murky transition between a prescription being written and that patient’s implementation of a plan of care. In fact, patients who could ask questions directly to a pharmacist and receive medication education showed a 15% increase in patient satisfaction. This uptick comes simply by having access to pharmacist-led patient engagement.
