Jon Lester Returns from Battle with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma to pitch a No-Hitter
On May 19th, Jon Lester threw a No-hitter against the Royals. A feat that is amazing in itself. But for someone who had to face Non Hodgkins Lymphoma,
and return to the thing he loved and reach that level of success...truly amazing.
Non hodgkins Lymphoma (NHL) is cancer of the lymphatic system. Over time, lymphoma cells replace the normal cells in the bone marrow.
This causes bleeding problems and infections. As the lymphoma cells spread,
the body becomes less and less able to produce blood cells that carry oxygen to other tissues or to protect itself from infection.
Each year there are approximately 50,000 new cases with 25,000 ending in death.
There are many treatment options including Biologics.
American Academy of Dermatology
issues new guidelines for the management of psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis
“As a result of the impartial analysis to the most current guidelines which will help enhance the quality of care for patients and ultimately their safety,” said dermatologist C. William Hanke, MD, FAAD, president of the Academy. “The guidelines for Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, which focus on the use of biologics, are the first phase of the Academy’s efforts. The Academy is currently working on a second phase of these guidelines which will provide evidence-based advice for the management of
psoriasis with topical therapies, ultraviolet light therapy, and systemic non biologic therapies for psoriasis.”
An estimated 6-7 million Americans are affected by psoriasis and the presence of psoriatic arthritis in the general U.S. population has been estimated to affect 300,000 and 750,000 individuals.
