The company that would eventually become BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy was founded in 1989 by Stephen Vogt, Pharm.D. and his business partner. At the time, Dr. Vogt was practicing as a clinical pharmacist in metabolic support at a Florida Hospital. He saw how much better the quality of life would be for TPN patients (that is, people being fed only through an IV) if they could be treated at home. To fill this patient need, he started the first home infusion pharmacy in Florida. Over time, Dr. Vogt built this idea – of local intravenous homecare pharmacies – into a national company with 38 centers and more than 400 employees.
The next evolution of Dr. Vogt’s company came in the mid-1990s. Again, Dr. Vogt saw the need for a new type of pharmacy that would better serve patients. His goal was to create a new model of specialty pharmacy: one that goes beyond simply supplying biologic medicines. He aimed to give patients the best possible treatment outcomes by setting up individual pharmaceutical care plans for each patient under his care.
After spreading across the country and expanding the services it offers, the company changed names in 2002 to the name it now has: BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy Services, Inc. BioPlus is now a top 10 specialty pharmacy currently treating more than 3,000 patients. BioPlus serves the specialty pharmacy needs of patients facing complex chronic health conditions, such as bleeding disorders, hepatitis C, cancer, and other health conditions, as well as patients requiring IgG therapy.
The core values that guide every aspect of business at BioPlus go by the acronym “CART” which stands for:
